Outdoor Classrooms

Outdoor classrooms can spark inspiration, motivate, and foster inquisitive thinking.  It helps children develop an appreciation and better understanding of nature and the environment.

We are proud of our generosity to McHenry County Schools. The WPPC provides grants of native plants to schools interested in creating an outdoor classroom. The grant offers up to 400 native plants to a qualifying school.  Our committee members are very experienced in gardening skills, restoration, and native plant lore and we are happy to provide assistance and guidance as necessary.

To be considered for an outdoor classroom grant, please submit a completed Grant Letter and Plant Order Form. Applications should be emailed or Postmarked on or before December 15.  Applicants will be notified on or about December 20th.  Plants will be available for spring planting around the end of April or beginning of May.

Please note that you must submit your request as outlined in the “criteria for grant submission” in the Grant Letter and there are no extensions of time for your request.
