Walk on the Wild Side, The Property of Drew Knobloch & Robin Taylor, Saturday, August 10, 2024, 9:30am

  • Aug 10th @ 9:30am - Aug 10th @ 9:30am
  • The Knobloch/Taylor Property
  • The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee

Description:  This is the first of two walks today.  This beautiful yard showcases various young native prairie gardens started from seed! Enjoy the blooms of Spotted Bee Balm, Compass Plants, Ironweed, and Black-Eyed Susans while seeing the progression of the prairie gardens. This yard offers a unique opportunity to compare the different stages of growth as the plants transform and mature over time. Learn about the process of starting a prairie from seed and hear stories about the hurdles and victories of the journey.  Additionally, a new garden planned through the WPPC’s mentoring program was installed in 2023 which will offer a growth comparison of starting from seed versus using plugs.  This walk is a must for anyone considering starting their own prairie!  This is not an open house.  The guided walk led by the homeowner will begin at 9:30am.  The walk is free of charge and no pre-registration is required.  When this tour is complete we will depart to the Madsen property for the day’s second garden walk.

Directions:  Take Rt 31 north through McHenry, turn right on Johnsburg Rd.  Continue on the road, and past Johnsburg it will turn into Wilmot Rd.  North of Rt 12, Paddock is the first road on the left after passing Main St Rd.  The property will be on the right.  1106 Paddock Rd, Spring Grove.
